„It was one of the quickest and most effortless photoshoots I have ever experenced.“

Czech fashion designer Jindra Jansová once said that Jan Grombiřík is like a small child who wants to see everything now and that is the basis of his charisma. That may well be the reason why Jan chooses models who are seen by some as controversial. Regardless these models are close to his heart and share a similar philosophy. In photographic terms they make up a wide-ranging portfolio. He says that the photoshoot with ethereal singer Jana Kratochvílová for Blue Paper magazine was one of the quickest and most effortless photoshoots he has ever done. In addition to Jana Kratochvílová, he has taken photos of Hermann Nitsch, another striking figure, and beauty Kristina Chrasteková for Blue Paper over the past two years. Pictured in profile with a turban on her head, Chrasteková evokes the Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer van Delft. Even though we cannot know whether this painting served as a model for the photo of Kristina, some of Jan's photos are similar to painting compositions. Before Jan took up photography, he had studied painting and he has always been interested in art history. He has also taken photos of architecture, including photos of the famous Brion-Vega cemetery in Italy for Blue Paper. His choice of models is influenced by his work in the fashion world.
