"We've put our heart and soul into this store, building it from scratch. It's funny how we've come a long way from selling Sonja plastic egg cups from the former German Democratic Republic." Adam Karásek, Jiří Mrázek, Nanovo owners
Last year, Adam Karásek and Jiří Mrázek from Nanovo - young fans of 20th century design – decided to expand their activities and finally step out of the virtual world of their online store. Following a long search for a convenient store in the centre of Prague, they found a place to put their portfolio of vintage design products on display on Týnská Street in the Old Town. Established in 2011, their online store, featuring Czechoslovak and international modernist furniture, lights and accessories, quickly found a loyal customer base both in the Czech Republic and abroad thanks to its refined selection of products, uncompromising graphic design by Filip Matějíček and overall youthful outlook. The two young entrepreneurs opened the store, having already established several small pop-up shops, exhibition presentations and an industrial showroom on Kolbenova Street. Customers can try out their carefully renovated modernist designs from the 1st and 2nd halves of the last century. In addition to standard and legendary iconic furniture pieces and glass, Nanovo offer a range of remarkable objects that have never been seen on the market with historic design pieces before. Last year, those objects included furniture taken from the Praha Hotel before it was demolished icons of 1980s Czechoslovak design. In addition to an austere geometric chair designed by Zbyněk Hřivnáč, Nanovo also offered simple alpaca teapots featuring the hotel's logo and glasses from the Montreal production line produced by Moser glassworks.
