“People involved in the world of knives, whether they be cutlers, fans or collectors, have a somewhat limited perspective of what a knife should look like. Their perspective can be disrupted, in the good sense of the word, by designers who bring with them a fresh outlook on their world." Ondřej Němec, Project Manager, Mikov
Cutlers from Mikulášovice have experienced several successful eras. Over the past two hundred years, knives from the Šluknov region have won high praise from experts and the public alike. This achievement is based, of course, on extraordinary technological and craftsmanship knowhow. The company has now been given new energy in the form of designer Ondřej Němec who takes the production of knives into the present and beyond. The result is the Pocket knives collection made in collaboration with the Olgoj Chorchoj studio. The minimalist aesthetics, premium quality and pure functionality of the knives are rooted in a pragmatic timeless simplicity that ignores ephemeral trends. Visual and structural austerity imbues the Pocket knives with durability thanks to the materials used the blade is made from the best BÖHLER N690 steel and the handle from type 420 stainless steel, making them a life- long investment. The design comes in S, M and L sizes and will be appreciated by fans of purist functionality. The handle features a delicate chequered pattern which guarantees a secure grasp. The pleasant haptics are just a surprising side effect you get the nice feeling that you're holding "a piece of real iron" in your hand. When opened, the form of the blade lends the knife real dynamism and the black matte paint endows it with elegance. It can be used for picking mushrooms, cutting Grana Padano cheese or truffles, skinning a rabbit or simply cutting a piece of rope. Mikov's Pocket knives meet the definition of a pocket knife for everyday use but with added luxury. These knives could one day become icons, much like the Fishlet pocket knives and UTON army knives that have been produced by Mikov for decades.
