visual identity and graphic communications for FAMUFEST EXPOSED 2015
FAMUFEST – a festival celebrating the work of the TV and Film School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague – is an integral part of autumn cultural events in Prague, and provides the school with an opportunity to interact with the public. In 2015, the 32nd festival's main theme was the analog process and its core feature – exposure. Graphic designer Filip Matějíček describes the visual identity for FAMUFEST on czechdesign.cz: "The key theme for FAMUFEST's visual concept was light, specifically its red and UV spectra, which are inseparably linked with exposure and the title of this year's event – EXPOSED." Combined with simple typography, the colour red serves as the main means of expressing the festival's visual identity. The minimalist concept in shades of reflective red, pink and orange is a remarkable and distinctive creation. The clear, comprehensible and revealing concept does not use graphic or typographic excesses to show off – it simply exists and tells a story. And that's what I found most attractive. FAMUFEST's visual identity, based on the principle of "minimum means – maximum effect", appeared in print and digital materials and even in the stage design which engulfed visitors in a red veil. FAMUFEST 2015 was a remarkable event not only thanks to its use of red, but also due to its extraordinary typography. Graphic designers Filip Matějíček and Jan Horčík are founders of the Heavywight typographic studio and we'll be definitely hearing a lot more from these two young designers in the future.
