Janja Prokić describes Abrakadabra as a collection for a contemporary witch. One of its key motifs is the ouroboros - the snake that eats its own tail - which symbolises the eternal circulation of energy. This motif, often associated with alchemy and hermetism, refers to the cyclical heart of things and the need to complete a cycle in order to arrive at a new beginning. The ouroboros is depicted on rings and a bracelet, the only jewellery pieces in the collection. Also featured are a crystal ball, magic wands and flacons for potions. Presented at Designblok in a special "boudoir for contemporary witches" designed by Janja Prokić, the collection is made from gold, black ebony wood and white corals.
Janja Prokić graduated from the K.O.V. (Concept – Object – Meaning) Studio at the AAAD. She also studied sculpture in the studio led by Kurt Gebauer at the AAAD, and painting in the studio led by Vladimír Skrepl at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Her work always seems to straddle the line between art and design. Her jewellery collections include miscellaneous non-jewellery pieces (such as wands) as well as smaller objects like rings and bracelets. Instead of yielding to trends, they reflect her perspective as a jewellery designer devoted to her themes. Abrakadabra succeeds in following Prokić's previous collections by sticking to her signature style while developing her craftsmanship and complexity of approach.
