Závoďáci 2 collection of wind-up toys

In his latest collection, the designer Tomáš Rejmon follows on from the tradition of Sutnar's toys. The appearance of the toys by Rejmon, very apt in their expression, reminds people of the best of the children's assortment that originated on the local scene during the past decades. The author admits that his source of inspiration were the 20th century racing cars, especially the iconic legends such as Ferrari or Lotus. Simplified forms and straightforward rendition made the Racers 2 series a distinctive feat in the field of local children's products of the last year. Tomáš Rejmon has already been pursuing designs of self-propulsion racing car models in recent years. Contrary to the current series, the first one was more articulated and laid more emphasis on minute details. This time, Rejmon fundamentally stripped the concept of details and gave birth to an absolutely pure and therefore powerful – toy. The magnetic propulsion of the machine is hidden inside the construction and the only visible feature is thus the car's colorful and simple frame. And yet, the motorcar is a fully functional object which, due to its timeless aesthetics, can even act as an interior solitaire in its own right. Rejmon's school is the Studio of Interior at the Faculty of Art and Design (Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem), headed by Jan Fišer. In 2015, the first collection of wind-up cars for children earned the designer the National Award for Student Design.
