Fority cooking pots made of Simax technical glass (Kavalierglass)
The Kavalier glassworks and borosilicate glass have been together for almost two centuries. The respectable tradition received a new blast of fresh air with the collection by Huy Pham, who designed a simple and straightforward series of dishes, Fority, for the Sázava-based company which smoothly fuses classics and contemporary trends, without excessive adornments and glitz, but with maximum emphasis laid on functionality and purity of shapes. The student from Ústí was inspired by the shapes of old enameled pots. Borrowing the basic lines from their initial morphology, he added new details to them such as, especially, the lid handles which do not conduct heat and thus prevent burning. The type of glass employed has yet another benefit: the food prepared in it does not chemically react with the vessel's material, and thus meets the principles of healthy cooking. Moreover, Huy Pham underlined this aspect by leaving the pots transparent and we can thus closely follow what is happening with the food during the preparation. The Fority pots originated as a bachelor's degree project at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem under the guidance of Jan Čapek. This year, Huy Pham also succeeded with them in the National Award for Student Design 2017, receiving the accolades Excellent Student Design and the Director of the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague Award. His minimalist design, combined with the classic lines, gave rise to a masterful and self-confident product which certainly deserves to become part of every (not only Czech) household.
