This fifth-year student from the Studio of Fashion Design at the Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín, headed by Kristýna Petříčková, has been attracting attention with his engaged and immensely topical aesthetics since the beginning of his studies. He comments on both social and cultural subjects in an inward and sensitive way, reflecting the facts of fashion without pathos or excessive drama. Managing to keep an idea pure and clean, to precisely elaborate on it and, at the same time, not to burden it with redundant messages and styling is a gift which catapulted Černý to both local and mainly international contexts; contexts where streetwear is dominated by the uncompromising hand of social media and where any diversion from being cool equals being out in a nanosecond. His ability to balance in the fragile, virtual environment of the indie bubble is rather crucial.
And although it may seem that everything that Černý presents in his collection has already been seen, said and done, such an idea is mistaken. The crucial aspects here are the concept and the context which the artist can handle as equally well as the cuts and proportions – exactly as he manifested in his spring/summer 2018 collection, created in cooperation with the shop The Room by Basmatee.
