Štepán Malovec, who designed a substantial amount of the posters and publications for exhibitions in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, ranks among the nominees with designs from a totally different field for the first time. Twenty labels in three series – each label is part of the whole, refers to the subseries and is very original – served as his entry ticket to a field of many requirements and limitations, all taking place on a relatively small space. As for his work for the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, we should mention the posters for the Bravos exhibition of Spanish design and the graphic design for the publication Geneze designu nábytku to which he applied his typical distinctive style. "He lives up to the proposition championed by Professor Zdeněk Ziegler that a designer should be friendly to people as well as the professor's inexhaustible spontaneity for visual jokes that contain several layers," says the curator of graphic design in the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, Iva Knobloch. A Graphic Designer of the Year for 2012, Malovec answered the questions for nominees on page 19 with titles of songs by Waldemar Matuška.
