Just a few years ago, there was not a single place in Prague which offered high-quality foreign magazines and professional literature from the fields of design, architecture, fine arts, illustration, fashion and other spheres related to lifestyle. This has totally changed with the launch of Page Five – a small and friendly bookstore established by the graphic designer and big book- and magazine-aficionado, František Kast. He settled quickly in the smallish corner space in Veverkova Street in the Letná district of Prague, and his shop today is almost an obligatory stop for members of the Prague creative scene. No one before him had imported such an eclectic range of iconic and popular foreign magazines, such as Fantastic Man, Another Magazine, Kinfolk and many more. Page Five, however, does not limit itself to works of foreign provenance; it also actively stimulates the local scene and helps independent publications come to life. The latter recently included the books The Artist, the Villa and the Pool, Grapphomaniac, A Brief Glossary of Letná and A Con from the Heavens. And not just that – František and his friends decided to organize an annual festival of original illustrations, "Lustr", which regularly presents the most outstanding talents to be found on the Czech illustrators' scene. Page Five is not a mere shop: it is a smoothly working community of friends and enthusiasts.
