A well-rounded product from the point of both concept and technology such is the collection of outdoor seating created by the young designers Eduard Herrmann and Matěj Coufal with David Karásek for the mmcité1 brand.
Throughout recent years, the duo from the Studio of Product Design at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design has proved their efficiency in solving demanding designer's tasks via the fusion of conceptual thinking, detailed formal processing and contemporary aesthetics. All this is also present in their project for mmcité1, which began cooperating with selected young designers with the aim to refresh its successful production. Pixel is a sophisticated and elaborated system of outdoor seating; it is widely variable and thus offers the widest possible spectrum of use. The steel construction and the seats of wooden laths form an endless mosaic of options in the sense of spatial arrangement, color combinations and functional solutions. It is a purely pragmatic design, following with the restrained character of Functionalism but upgrading it by minimalist yet elegant formal solution. Pixel exemplifies an excellent collaboration between the designer and the producer, being a symbiosis of innovative creative ideas and professional technological treatment. Simultaneously, design here does not merely play an aesthetic and/or practical role, since the collection moreover expands its potential on the levels of system and Eduard Herrmann, Matěj Coufal and David Karásek have come forth with a flexible solution, perfectly accomplished not only as concerns the individual design of the particular features, but mainly the overall system of their subsequent use.
