The key source of inspiration for the collection Tales of the Future is found in post-apocalyptic and neo-Baroque aesthetics. While its opulent shapes and the glitter of diamond and gold gets our attention, the pieces seem to have been equally warped by a close encounter with grim reality.
The rings of this collection represent milestone moments that impact and transform us. They carry profound emotional charge and sometimes even border on pathos, representing abandonment and a search for solace in the dark. They glow like hope and beauty among the ruins, beaten and battered but still alive.
I believe this work captures the spirit of our times – we are seeing the erosion of the international order which has been in place for decades, and states, communities and individuals are living in a state of unprecedented uncertainty.
This collection shows a meticulous level of craftsmanship. The scratched and carved details have been a staple of Ondřej’s work for a long time. But his use of laboratory-grown diamonds is a new feature of this series, and all except one were also personally hand-faceted by him. They are supported by polished metal surfaces, making for a striking contrast with the rough and scratched structures.
Considering the long-term philosophy of Ondřej’s brand and the standard operations of the local gold and diamond jewelry market, it is important to note that this collection goes against the grain of principles of exclusivity and unaffordability. Authenticity and belonging are an integral part of this and also impact its communications and business model.
