Soon after graduating from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Tomáš Souček established himself as a sought-after photographer of architecture and exhibitions, as well as various cultural phenomena, such as in the case of the highly successful publication Tribes. He moreover cooperated with its author, Vladimir 518 (and the curator Ondřej Chrobák) on their most recent joint project the representative book Obsession which, via interviews and photographs, maps out the studios and oeuvres of twenty significant Czech artists of several generations. Here, Souček's images represent antipoles to the texts not only thanks to the inventive portraits of artists but also thanks to the insightful views into their creative environment, including peculiar as well as cutely obsessive details, the latter sensitively illustrating the diversity and singularity of all those interviewed. For the generously conceived catalogue accompanying the exhibition of Maxim Velčovský, "All for 39", held in the Brno Moravian Gallery, Souček captured the entire installation in the utmost detail in a way which technically refers to professional product photography, but simultaneously retains the subversively self-ironic character of the exhibition concept.
