Karel Matějka received the Designer of the Year nomination for his One Zero lamp, presented at the autumn 2018 Designblok. Already then, the jury made of editors-in-chief active in various professional periodicals priced his project as one of the most interesting achievements presented in the spaces of the Prague exhibition grounds. His design mainly drew attention by its functionality and flexibility and, last but not least, its purist morphology - for the lamp is in fact a fusion of elementary geometric forms, combining sphere, straight line and circle. However, the given simplicity has a counterpoise in the form of a sophisticated solution hidden - literally - inside: the viscera of the spherical base are a gyroscopic mechanism allowing for arrestment in an array of desired positions, and not only from the point of its height but also along its axis in the range of 360°. The LED source, determining the ray of light, is adjustable as well. The expert jury of the Academy of Design of the Czech Republic also appreciated the purist elaboration of details. There is no switch disturbing the minimalist look of the lamp; instead, a touch technology replaced it to regulate the intensity of light. The simplicity and the timeless form of the lamp thus make One Zero a product of iconic nature clearly boasting the potential to stand the demanding test of collections created by the most illustrious world producers.
